Man and van
Man and van in Greenwich, for the jobs a full removal would overcharge for
One or two people and a van sized to the load. Priced by the job before we set off, and carried by us rather than by you and a friend who regrets volunteering.
Not everything that leaves SE10 needs a crew of four. A room out of a shared house near the university, a sofa going across to Charlton, a part load into storage while a purchase drags on — those are one van and a few hours, and they should be quoted as such. What they should not be is quoted at a low hourly figure that finds reasons to keep running.
Is it a man-and-van job?
Find the row that sounds like yours. If you are between two, describe the load and we will tell you straight — including when the cheaper-looking option is the wrong one.
One room out of a shared flat
Man and van
One van, one or two people, a few hours. The staircase still gets planned; there is just less to carry down it.
A sofa, a bed or a fridge-freezer on its own
Man and van
Single awkward items are most of what we do midweek. Tell us the floor and whether there is a lift and that is the quote sorted.
A studio or a small one-bed, lightly furnished
Man and van, usually
Depends on the furniture rather than the floor area. A one-bed with a corner sofa and a bike collection has tipped over into a small removal.
A fully furnished one or two-bed
A full removal
More crew, a bigger vehicle, materials and dismantling. See flat removals — it will cost less than a man-and-van job that runs three times over.
A whole house, a loft and a cellar
A full removal
Not close. House removals is the page, and the survey is not optional.
Anything going to France or Spain
A European move
Different vehicle, different paperwork, a customs inventory. The European hub explains it.
The runs we do most
Greenwich to Charlton and back is the commonest small move on our books, closely followed by moves within SE10 itself and short hops out to Blackheath and Kidbrooke. Anything along the A2 or through the Blackwall approach is straightforward. Longer one-way runs out of London are fine too — they just want a little more notice so we can send the right vehicle rather than the nearest one.
Access still matters
Even for one item. A wardrobe out of a second-floor conversion on Maze Hill and the same wardrobe out of a Charlton semi with a driveway are not the same job, and the difference is entirely the stairs and the kerb. Two lines about the access when you enquire saves a conversation later.
Materials
Worth having for a part load, because loose belongings move around in a half-full van far more than a stacked wall of boxes does. We can drop cartons off beforehand or bring them with us. What we cannot do is pack a room from scratch while the van waits — if you want packing, book it as packing.
Man and van — the practical bits
How many people come with the van?
One or two, depending on what is moving and what the access looks like. A wardrobe down three flights of a Greenwich conversion is not a one-person job and we will not pretend it is. The crew size is on the quote.
Do you carry, or just drive?
We carry. A driver who stays in the cab while you shift a sofa is a van hire with extra steps. Help if you want to — it is your move — but nobody expects you to.
Can you come at short notice?
Often, especially midweek. Weekends and month-ends are tighter. Ring and ask rather than assuming, and if we cannot do it we will say so immediately rather than leaving you hanging.
How is it priced?
By the job. We ask what is moving, where from and to, and what the access is at both ends. That gives the van size and the crew, and those give the price. If you add something on the day we tell you what it changes before we load it — never after.
Do you cover Blackheath, Charlton and the Peninsula for small jobs?
Yes, all of them, and single items across the Royal Borough generally. Small jobs get the same access planning as large ones; there is just less of it to do.
Can I travel in the van?
Usually, if there is a spare seat. Say so when you book so we send a vehicle with room rather than one already full of blankets.
Small job, properly quoted
Tell us what is moving and where it is going. You will get a price, not an hourly rate and a shrug.
