House removals
House removals in Greenwich, run at the pace the house deserves
A whole-home move across SE10, SE3 or SE7 with a named crew, protection down before anything is carried, and a written scope that accounts for the staircase and the street.
Greenwich houses are old, tall and narrow far more often than they are modern and wide. A four-storey terrace off Crooms Hill has a hall you can touch both walls of, a staircase that turns twice, and a front door that was hung before anyone owned a three-seater. Charlton and Westcombe Park give you more room and steeper streets. Somewhere in between sits the bulk of our work.
None of that is a problem. It is just a job that has to be looked at before it is priced, which is why every house move starts with a survey — in person for anything above a small flat — covering your staircase, your street and the same two things at the address you are moving to.
The day, in the order it happens
- 01
We arrive and walk the house
Room by room with you, agreeing what goes and what stays. Anything fragile or awkward that has appeared since the survey gets flagged now rather than discovered halfway down the stairs.
- 02
Protection goes down first
Runners on hallway and stair carpet, padding on the newel post and the turn, door jambs covered. In a period house this takes a while and is the least optional part of the day.
- 03
Rooms clear in a workable order
Not the order you would guess. The hall and the stairs have to stay passable, so the rooms furthest from the door go first and the things you need last come off the van first.
- 04
Furniture is wrapped where it stands
Blankets go on in the room, not at the van. Pictures, mirrors and anything with a veneer go into cases. Fixings from dismantled pieces are bagged and taped to the piece.
- 05
We load for the route, not the tidiness
A load going four streets is packed differently from one going to Kent or to Spain. Weight low, nothing resting on a polished surface, and straps where a hill demands them.
- 06
We finish at your pace
Boxes to the room on the label, beds rebuilt where you want them, packaging taken away. Then a walk round — loft, cellar, garden, under the stairs — before anyone leaves.
Included as standard
- Blankets and cases
- Furniture blanketed in the room. Pictures, mirrors and marble in purpose-made cases.
- Dismantle and rebuild
- Beds, wardrobes, flat-pack and table legs, with fixings bagged to the piece.
- Floor and stair protection
- Runners and padding at both ends. Period hallways take a beating otherwise.
- Room labelling
- Boxes marked for the room they are going to, which is why unloading is the calm half.
- Appliance handling
- Washing machines braced or transit-bolted, fridges upright, gas left to a registered engineer.
- Access paperwork
- Bay suspensions with the council and lift bookings with the building, sorted in advance.
If the house is a period one
Most of ours are. Original staircases, lath-and-plaster walls, sash windows and conservation-area rules all change how a day runs, and they are covered properly on the period and conversion moves page.
If the dates do not meet
They often do not. Containerised storage bridges the gap, loaded so the things you want first are the things you can reach.
If you are leaving the country
The same crew loads, and the run goes out through the A102 and round the M25. The European removals pages set out how a road move to France, Spain, Italy or Portugal works from here, and what customs will want.
House moves — the usual questions
How long does a house move in Greenwich take?
It depends on the size of the house, how much is packed and — more than anything here — the access at both ends. A ground-floor flat with a driveway and a four-storey terrace off the park are not comparable jobs. We give you a realistic window at survey rather than a figure over the phone.
Do you pack for us?
Full pack, part pack or materials dropped off in advance, whichever you want. Most people ask us to do the kitchen, the glass and the pictures and handle the rest themselves.
Can you move us on completion day?
Yes, and most house moves here work that way. It means a morning waiting on solicitors, so we load early and go the moment keys are released. If the chain slips, storage covers the gap.
What about the cellar and the garden?
Tell us at survey. Greenwich houses have a lot of cellars and side returns, and both hold more than anyone remembers. Pots, tools, bikes and garden furniture all change the volume.
Is a period house quoted differently?
It is quoted with more time in it, because protection, cases and a turning staircase all take longer. The period-property page explains exactly what changes and why.
Tell us about the house
Two addresses, a rough room count, and anything you already know is going to be awkward. That is enough to get a survey booked.
