FAQ

Questions, answered properly

Everything people ring and ask, written out. If yours is not here, the contact page has three ways to reach us and none of them is a chatbot.

Greenwich specifics

Can you park on a conservation-area street in Greenwich?
Sometimes, and where we cannot we arrange a bay suspension with the Royal Borough on your behalf and build the notice period into the plan. A handful of streets around the old town will not take a Luton at all, in which case we shuttle from the nearest workable point and tell you that at quote stage rather than on the morning.
Do you move period furniture and pictures properly?
Gilt frames, mirrors, marble tops and anything veneered travel in purpose-made cases rather than under a blanket. A good share of what leaves Greenwich houses needs it, so it is part of how we quote rather than an extra we mention later.
What about the apartment blocks on the Peninsula?
Those need the building on side before the date. Service lift booked, loading window confirmed, insurance documents with the managing agent, and the right goods entrance identified — which is rarely the one shown on the map. We handle that correspondence for you.
How do you work out what a move costs?
Volume, distance, access and how much packing you want us to do. Access carries more weight in SE10 than almost anywhere: a second-floor conversion with a turning staircase takes longer than a ground-floor flat holding the same furniture.
Do you cover Blackheath and Charlton as well?
Yes. SE3 and SE7 are a short run and we work them regularly. Blackheath sits across the Greenwich and Lewisham boundary, so we take the Greenwich side and are happy to point you at a Lewisham-based firm when a job clearly belongs with them.
How far ahead should I book?
As soon as you have a likely date, even a provisional one. Fridays and month-ends go first, and if your move involves a service lift on the Peninsula the building may need notice too. Holding a provisional date costs nothing and moving it is easy.

On the day

Will my sofa get round the staircase?
That is the single most common question in a period conversion, and it is why we measure the turn at survey. Some sofas come apart at the back and go through flat. A few genuinely will not go, and it is far better to know that now than with one wedged on a half-landing.
Do you dismantle and rebuild furniture?
As standard on house moves. Beds, wardrobes, flat-pack units, table legs. Fixings are bagged and taped to the piece they came off. If something was assembled in place and will not come apart safely, we say so at survey rather than trying it with the clock running.
Can you move a piano?
Often, but it gets scoped separately because the answer depends on the staircase far more than on the piano. Greenwich has a lot of uprights in first-floor period rooms and the route out is the whole question. Mention it when you enquire.
What will you not put in the van?
Anything flammable or pressurised — petrol, gas bottles, aerosols by the crate, solvents. Plants travel badly and are better in the car. Perishable food and anything living stays with you. Cash, jewellery and documents should travel with you too.
Do you supply packing materials?
Yes. Double-walled cartons, wardrobe boxes, picture and mirror cases, tissue, bubble and tape. We can drop them off in advance so you can pack at your own pace, or pack the whole house for you.
Is my furniture insured while you have it?
We carry goods-in-transit and public liability cover. The limits, the exclusions and the process for reporting a problem are set out in the booking terms so you can read them before you commit. Anything unusually valuable should be declared at survey so it is properly accounted for.
Can you store things between completion dates?
Yes — containerised storage, inventoried on the way in. Short overlaps and longer waits both work. The storage page explains how it is loaded and what to tell us if you will need access while it is with us.

Storage, abroad and afterwards

What is the difference between man and van and a full removal?
Scale and crew. Man and van is one or two people and a single van, right for a room, a part load or one awkward item. A full removal brings a larger crew, a bigger vehicle, materials and furniture dismantling. Describe the load and we will tell you which it is.
Do you move students and single rooms?
Yes, and we quote them properly rather than as an afterthought. A room out of a shared house near the university with a bed, a desk and a dozen boxes still has a staircase and a parking problem attached.
Do you work Saturdays?
Yes, and they are the busiest day of the week, so they book out first. Sunday and bank-holiday moves can be arranged with notice — and some Peninsula buildings restrict weekend moving hours, which we check with them first.
Can you collect from more than one address?
Yes. A house and a storage unit, or a relative's place on the way. Mention every pickup point at survey so the route and the load order are planned around them rather than improvised.
How does a move to France or Spain work from Greenwich?
By road, almost always. We load in SE10, run out via the A102 and the M25 to the M20, cross by tunnel or ferry, and drive to the address. Customs paperwork for household goods is prepared before you travel — the European pages set out what each country wants.
Do you handle the customs paperwork yourselves?
We prepare and lodge it. Since Brexit a household move to the EU needs a detailed inventory, evidence you are transferring your residence, and a customs declaration. We compile the documents and tell you exactly what you need to supply from your side.
What happens if something is damaged?
Note anything visible on the delivery paperwork before we leave, and tell us as soon as you find anything afterwards. The claims process and the reporting window are in the booking terms. We would far rather hear about a scuffed table straight away.
How do I get a quote?
Send the two addresses and anything useful about access through the quote form, or call. We will come back to arrange a survey and put a written quote together — normally within a working day or two.

Still stuck? The services page explains what each job involves, the coverage page goes street by street, and the European hub handles everything about moving abroad.

Question not covered?

Ask it. We answer removals questions from people who have booked nothing and intend to book nothing, and that is entirely fine.
